Compensation: $130,000-$160,000

The job: 
As Corporate Counsel at Buildertrend, you will provide strategic legal guidance across the organization. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including People, Product, Data, and Security—to develop and implement scalable legal frameworks that support Buildertrend’s business objectives and mitigate risk. You excel in managing multiple complex matters simultaneously, have a business-oriented approach to legal problem-solving, and demonstrate sound judgement in a fast-paced, evolving environment. As a key member of our Legal Team, you will address a broad spectrum of legal issues and contribute to the continued success of Buildertrend.
 

What you will do: 

• Provide legal advice and guidance to various departments within Buildertrend, including scaling a data governance framework and associated policies and procedures, advising on product-related matters, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Serve as the primary Legal resource for the People Team, advising on labor and employment matters.
• Identify and manage legal risks associated with operations, including conducting legal research, monitoring legal developments, and developing policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks.
• Negotiate with external parties on behalf of Buildertrend, including reviewing and drafting legal agreements, identifying potential legal issues, and advocating for Buildertrend’s interests.
• Develop and implement comprehensive digital governance policies and procedures in compliance with relevant regulations. Advise internal teams on proper data handling practices and manage breach response activities.
• Evaluate and mitigate potential legal risks and recommend proactive measures to minimize exposure.
• Assist in developing and implementing company policies to ensure a lawful and efficient workplace.
• Design, develop, and deliver training sessions to educate employees on legal and compliance-related matters.

Who you are and what you need: 

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school with strong academic credentials.
• 5+ years of experience as a practicing lawyer either in private practice or with a corporate legal department.
• Licensed to practice law in the State of Nebraska or licensed in another state bar with the ability to obtain in-house counsel status in Nebraska.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to nonlegal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated capacity to manage substantial workloads in fast-paced environments while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and encourage people to partner with you as we grow the business together.
