Clarkson College is seeking to hire a part time tutor to assist English Language Learner (ELL) students. This position will provide academic tutoring and support to college students who are English Language Learners (ELLs), assist students in developing academic language proficiency, understanding course content, improving study skills, and navigating academic culture. Tutors will work with students individually and potentially in small groups across various subjects, with a focus on language development. The tutor will assess, assist and encourage the students in the learning processes. Tutors review materials used in classes, explain various topics, and answer questions.
The tutor will meet one on one with students or in a small group in a virtual setting by appointment. The ideal candidate will be able to provide 5-10 hours of availability each week excluding Clarkson College breaks.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field is required
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently required.
* An awareness of the challenges faced by English Language Learners in an academic setting required.
* Understanding of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds required.
* Ability to work effectively with students from various proficiency levels and academic disciplines required.
* Reliability, punctuality, and strong organizational skills required.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to college policies required.
Preferred Qualifications:
* ESL certification (e.g., TESOL, TEFL) preferred.
* Previous tutoring experience preferred.
* Basic understanding of medical terminology preferred.
